Become a Music Star

While you might think that American Idol is the only way to become famous, this is far from the truth. Yes, many people have become famous on this show, but just as many people had their fifteen minutes of fame and then disappeared. Instead of disappearing, you need to make sure that you are working hard from the start and creating a career that has staying power. In other words, forget Simon and the rest of the gang (the rest of the world has) and start becoming a singer.

Practice, Practice, Practice

You may have been blessed with a lovely singing voice and the ability to sing well and on key, but that doesn’t mean you can just stop practicing. You need to practice each and every day to make sure your voice can be strong through longer concerts and performances. It’s a good idea to find a voice coach who can work with you to begin to strengthen up any weaknesses you might have. You will also learn from the coach how to protect your voice and how to make sure that you are singing as strong as you actually can. Many singers, even good ones, will find out from a singing coach that they are not singing as well as they could, but once they work with a coach, their voice gets stronger and more flexible.

Start Booking Your Gigs

You will want to act as your own agent, booking gigs wherever you can. This will allow you to be seen by as many people as possible – landing you an agent, in some cases. Too many would-be music stars will simply wait for someone to discover them, but you need to get out into the world and simply be a singer. Over time, you will gain a following and you will begin to see that others are talking about you. If you continue to work in this way, eventually a record label will find you and they will want to sign you on.

Keep Marketing Yourself

The good news is that it’s easier than ever to market yourself with social media marketing tools. You will want to use Facebook and Twitter and all of the tools you can get your hands on. Talk about your shows, share upcoming performance dates, etc. Make sure everyone in your area knows where you will be playing and that you’d love to see them come out. Post videos of your performances, mp3 files of your songs, etc. In time, you will notice that you’re getting noticed. Agents will come, you will get booked for higher prices and at bigger venues, all because you stuck with it.

Becoming a music star does not normally happen overnight, no matter what the movies say. You need to work hard and eventually others will take notice and begin to wonder how much more successful you could be with their help.
